Manchester bombing: Susanna Reid grills Yvette Cooper 'Why don't we crack down?'

The Good Morning Britain host asked Cooper: “There are 3,000 people on a watch list, and there are people asking why they are just on a watch list.

“People are asking, ‘Why don’t we crack down and put people away if there’s a danger they might end up blowing themselves up?’

“But at what point does that backfire and make things worse? There’s an unspoken feeling among police and politicians that you can make things worse if you crack down too hard,” the 46-year-old questioned.

The Shadow Home Secretary replied: “This works best with partnerships. It should be community-led prevention work and I think that combination works.

“I think people don’t know enough about how to contain radicalisation. It is evil and we should be very clear about this.

“The Select Committee is looking at things and we think much more needs to be done in terms of prison radicalisation.

“We know there’s an issue in communities, and one of the things the Committee recommended is that there needs to be more support for friends and family,” Cooper explained.

This came after Susanna’s co-host Piers Morgan slammed politicians who appeared on the show yesterday, demanding for action against terrorists.

He told Vince Cable, Chuka Umunna and Iain Duncan Smith: “At some stage you can’t just keep having the same response. This is about as heinous as it gets, going to a pop concert and targeting young girls who went to see Ariana Grande and blowing them to pieces.

“There comes a moment when we need to say, ‘Forget the PC stuff, we need to stop this before it happens’,” the 52-year-old ranted.
