The first episode of the season saw a divorced couple join forces to search for the son they gave up as teenagers.
As presenter Nicky Campbell revealed the team had traced son Simon, he went to meet the missing family member and deliver the news.
Simon asked whether his parents had any other children after giving him up for adoption, to which Nicky revealed that he also had two sisters.
Stunned, Simon said: “Right, okay. That’s amazing… I need to take a break.”
Walking off camera after receiving the overwhelming news, the host asked him: “Okay. Are you alright? Let it sink in. Are you okay?”
Returning to the table, Simon said: “Wow. Yes, sorry, I just needed a second.”
Watching the moment back on TV, Davina tweeted: “Oh god … I’m crying sooooooo much @NickyAACampbell.”
Other viewers rushed to social media as the show began to trend on Twitter.
One fan tweeted: “#longlostfamily needs to come with a disclaimer that you will end the programme with a throbbing headache and swollen eyes cause I AM DONE.”
“Officially hysterical. This is so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time @ITV #longlostfamily,” posted another.
