London holiday post-Brexit BOOM: 'Great value’ UK capital sees tourist numbers SOAR

The city has become much more attractive to tourists, according to latest figures from ForwardKeys.

London has seen a 14 per cent spike in forward bookings for long-haul international arrivals compared to the beginning of July last year.

The primary reason for this significant increase is the weakened pound which is attracting overseas markets.

London is on average nine per cent better value this year than last.

It also comes despite a spate of terror attacks in the UK in recent months.

London now has a bigger market share of long-haul bookings than any other European city.

Between July and October London has 12 per cent, while Paris takes nine per cent and Rome seven per cent.

The Americas are the most popular source of inbound tourists, accounting for a 21 per cent increase in bookings from July 1 to October 31.

There has been a 15 per cent increase in visitors from Africa and 14 per cent from the Asia Pacific.

The only region to note a decline in tourist traffic was the Middle East, which has dropped by 20 per cent.

This has been attributed to a fall in the price of oil and the timing of Ramadan.

Olivier Jager, ForwardKeys co-founder and CEO, said: “London is great value at the moment and people are springing at the opportunity for a holiday, costing less than they might have anticipated.

“It’s also testimony to London’s appeal as a destination and excellent news for all those businesses involved in selling London and the rest of the UK as a destination.

“This is an obvious and clear demonstration of how currency fluctuations affect travel, even in the face of other significant factors.”

The ForwardKeys data was collected from the analysis of 16 million holiday bookings each day.

It showed tourists from Brazil, Russia and China are showing particular interest in London as a destination this year over the rest of Europe.

While inbound tourism to London has spiked, staycations have also noted an increase since last year.

Britons are choosing mini-breaks in the UK rather than longer holidays abroad and it’s already delivered an extra £2bn into the economy.
