Logan news: Hugh Jackman talks ‘embarrassing’ shirtless scenes – ‘Now I’m eating again!’

His physique much-talked about, you would think the A-list star would be sick of fielding questions but was only too happy to discuss the gruelling regime he had to endure.

Speaking to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show last night, he admitted: “It’s sort of unbelievable to me that what I did for 17 years, I got better at it as the time went on.”

Jackman also joked that the task was a lot more daunting than he’d first believed: “On the first one I thought, you get into shape in three weeks. And I turned up, and the director had pushed all the ‘shirt-off’ scenes to the very end, four months later… Yeah.”

Agreeing with Colbert saying James Mangold, the director, had declared “no one wants to see that”, he added: “He really said, ‘we’re gonna have to hide the camera here’. If you go back and see that movie, there’s some embarrassing shots.”

Colbert, the American chat-show host, wasn’t pulling any punches when he asked the Logan star: “Can we finally look forward to ‘Fat Jackman’?”

The Hollywood actor laughed and shot back: “Thank you for the baguette and the cheese you had up in my room. I thought: ‘this is the beginning, gone! It’s all gone! It’s all here ready to go’”, referring to his buff torso.

He added: “So yes, now I’m eating, and loving it. Sometimes waking up at 2 in the morning JUST to go and have breakfast cereal, you know? And then go back to bed. With it in my lap.”

Logan is next in the line of Marvel’s X-Men films and focuses on a darker, more mature future as the Wolverine attempts escape from a terrifying new villain while taking care of the ailing Professor Xavier. The film was released to rave reviews across the board, and it’s a film Jackman is very proud of.

“It was so much fun,” he beamed. “There was probably eight key people, including the studio, you know, who really believed in doing something a little different.”

Jackman even said he had a part in the character showing a completely different side: “I literally woke up bolt upright at 4 o’clock in the morning, today, two years ago. I kept thinking of The Wrestler and Unforgiven and I thought how cool it would be, to see Wolverine not just taking people out.

“What is it like for the soldier who returns home and tries to find peace with his life? He’s a violent character, and has dark demons. So I rang James Mangold, and he went off and wrote it, and directed this beautiful movie.”

Logan is in cinemas now.
