Location, Location, Location: Kirstie Allsopp ‘slaughters’ first time buyers for THIS

In Southampton, Tom and Jenny were keen to move out of their cramped rental property and into a house of their own.

But the couple had been facing fierce competition and a fast market.

They also had strict criteria for their dream home.

With a £250,000 mortgage, Tom and Jenny wanted a three bedroom home, a “project” so they could do their own little renovations, a light kitchen and a community feel.

Kirstie Allsopp was helping the couple on their search, but the response she gave them was not what they were expecting.

She said: “I’m just going to come out with it – if I didn’t know how old you are, I would say you’re 55.”

Jenny replied: “Don’t slaughter us.”

Kirstie’s response was: “I’ve been doing this a long time, and there’s no blood on my hands yet.”

Despite having a clear vision of what they wanted, Tom and Jenny fell in love with the first house they saw in Shirley.

After a tedious battle with asking prices the couple made an offer on the property for £245,000, £5,000 under budget, and the house was theirs.

On a previous episode of Location, Location, Location Phil Spencer proclaimed “I’m not a house hunter”, much to fellow presenter Kirstie Allsopp’s amusement.

Kirstie and Phil helped first-time buyers Laura and Phil and downsizing duo Kerrie and Dave who hoped to move closer to their kids.

Kerrie and Dave had high expectations for their new home, and the couple had two very different ideals.

The first property the couple were shown was in Carlingcott, six miles from Bath.

It was a £525,000 former chapel, but the couple weren’t very impressed with its inside.

Its huge garden wasn’t a hit as it was overlooked by the neighbours. Dave said: “I don’t have a great feeling about this. The garden is a big negative.”

Phil speaking to Kirstie alone said: “I feel like I’m not a house hunter.”

Kirstie replied: “You’re a marriage counsellor.”
