In the second episode of the ITV drama telling the story of 11-year-old Jones’ murder, killer Sean Mercer (played by Paddy Rowan) and his gang members attempted to cover their tracks.
They visited potential witnesses in order to intimidate them into lying to the police.
However, Mercer and fellow gang member James Yates (James Nelson-Joyce), who supplied him with the gun used to kill Jones, were also aided by their parents.
In shocking scenes, Marie and Frank Yates were seen destroying a mobile phone sim card that could have been vital evidence for police, as well as planning James’ false alibis.
A third remarked: “#littleboyblue shocking how parents feel they can cover for their disgraceful ‘childrens’ sickening acts #Everton #GoneButNotForgotten.”
“How horrendous that the other parents were actually covering it up … imagine if it was your son #LittleBoyBlue,” a fourth added.
