Kate Middleton shows down-to-earth side with this adorable nickname for Prince William

Kate Middleton, 36, has been with Prince William for around 16 years, dating since 2002.

Being so close for so long, the couple is only naturally going to form pet names for each other.

Last week Meghan Markle’s nickname for Prince Harry was let slip after she affectionately referred to him as “my love” during a charity performance of Hamilton.

Kate’ nickname for William is also just as affectionate, and perhaps even more relatable.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been overheard calling her husband “babe”, a pretty normal and down-to-earth pet name.

Talking at the Chelsea Flower Show, Kate was overheard calling Prince William “babe” when he asked her about a plant.

After William asked his wife for details on a particular flower, Kate, reportedly replied: “”Babe, we’ve got those. We’ve got loads of those,” according to Grazia UK.

Revealing another cute nickname the Cambridges share, Mick Conway, a landscape designer who also attended the event, claimed to Hello! that Kate actually called William “darling”.

The prince also has the same cute nicknames for Kate, asking his wife at the flower show: “Could you make one of these, darling?”, when looking at a poppy display.

According to the Daily Mail, William had a couple more secret nicknames for Kate that he used during his time in the military.

William is said to have called Kate the cute nicknames “baby” and “babykins”.

While the Royal Family is full of titles, it seems that it is also full of adorable and unusual pet names, too.

Prince Harry calls his new wife Meghan Markle, 37, “Meg” and the Duchess of Sussex and her friends reportedly refer to the 33-year-old prince as “Haz”.

One nickname that got the world talking earlier this month was Prince Harry’s nickname for his sister-in-law Kate.

The 33-year-old Prince is said to call Kate “Cath”, which derives from her full name Catherine, according to OK magazine.

Quizzed on the nickname by radio presenter Scott Mills, Kate said: “I’m not sure, I’m not that familiar with it. But I will answer to most things.”

Some other Royal nicknames have surfaced over the years, with future king Prince William, 36, having revealed the one assigned to him by his doting mother, Princess Diana.

William divulged in a 2007 interview the People’s Princess used to call him “Wombat”.

Speaking to NBC’s Matt Lauer, he said: “It began when I was two. I’ve been rightfully told because I can’t remember back that far.

“But when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal. So I just basically got called that.”

How did Kate Middleton become a royal?

Early life

Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, England.

She was born to Michael and Carole Middleton, a former flight dispatcher and air hostess. The couple founded a party supplies company, Party Pieces, in 1987 – now estimated to be worth £30 million.

Kate has a younger sister Pippa Matthews, 34, and a younger brother James Middleton, 31.

Education

Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, in 1984, where the future Duchess was educated at an English-speaking nursery school.

After moving back to Berkshire the family sent Kate to private school, St Andrews School. She went on to briefly study at Downe House before moving onto Marlborough College where she boarded.

For university the young Kate attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Here she was awarded an undergraduate MA (2:1 Hons) in history of art.

Relationship with Prince William

Kate met Prince William when they were both studying at St Andrews, and both living in St Salvator’s Hall. Famously, William reportedly took a fancy to Kate after she wore a see-through dress during a fashion show.

In 2003 the couple began dating and lived together during their second year of university.

The couple split in April 2007, however, in October they were back together.

Wedding

Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother Princess Diana’s engagement ring in October 2010. The couple were holidaying in Kenya at the time.

On 29 April 2011 they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live.

Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress worth a reported £250,000 on the big day.

Kate assumed the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge” and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
