Kate Middleton flatters baby bump in Erdem dress – after forgoing black at the BAFTAs

Kate Middleton, 36, stepped out in an elegant floral Erdem dress whilst at the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange reception at Buckingham Palace.

The black and white gown flattered the pregnant royals figure with elbow length sleeves and a calf-length skirt.

She finished the look with some black pointed stilettos, a departure from her famous nude court shoe.

Her long brown hair was left down in loose curls, accentuating her features.

On behalf of the queen, Kate was joined by Sophie, the Countess of Wessex to host the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange reception at Buckingham Palace.

The initiative uses fashion as common language to help people understand the Commonwealth in a different way.

It is hoped that it will create partnerships between the 53 member countries of the Commonwealth by celebrating creativity and sustainable production.

The event precedes the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in London in April.

Designers such as Stella McCartney, Karen Walker and Bibi Russell have partnered with producer in small nations to showcase traditional techniques and trades.

Guests will include influential people across the globe such as designers, textiles producers and manufacturers.

Other famous guests include Anna Winter,, Naomi Campbell and other royals such as Princess Beatrice.

Her older sister Princess Eugenie has recently announced her engagement to Jack Brooksbank

Her choice of dress for the event was a departure from her look last weekend. Kate provoked many after stepping out at the BAFTAs in a dark green Jenny Packham gown.

Many celebrities donned black in support of the Time’s Up movement, something the 36-year-old was criticised for ignoring.

However many felt that her black sash and black clutch bag was her nod to the movement, with many royal protocol often preventing family members from being politically motivated.

The pregnant royal has been seen wearing black on other occasions, most recently at a gala at Kensington Palace.
