Kate Middleton is well known for looking impeccably stylish on every public outing. No matter where she is in the world on royal tours, the Duchess of Cambridge attracts much attention for her chic look. As any traveller knows, what one wears while abroad can make or break a day out. Prince William’s wife is often seen in high heels or wedges at formal events but she also packs a practical option.
On multiple occasions – in countries across the globe – thrifty Kate has worn a pair of trusty boat shoes.
The pair of Sebago taupe suede and white Bala slip-on loafers have been frequently spotted on the Duchess’s feet.
She wore them sailing in Auckland Harbour in New Zealand, on safari at Kaziranga National Park in India and to row dragon boats on Dalvay Lake in Canada.
The 100 per cent leather shoes feature a latex foam cushion in the footbed and claim not to “compromise style for comfort.”
According to manufacturer Sebago, the loafers are “welcome footwear for lunch, errands, and just dashing around. A traction-ready outsole keeps things steady on- and offshore.”
Given Kate’s busy schedule, these versatile shoes – which can match nearly any outfit – are clearly very useful.
Kate Middleton – and her sister-in-law Meghan Markle – tend to follow a specific fashion rule when they go abroad.
They both choose to wear foreign designers from the country they are travelling to as a nod to their culture.
For instance, when Kate went to India in 2017, she wore a bohemian dress by Indian designer Anita Dongre which prompted the website to crash as many flocked to buy it.
Kate also went for Amrapali Jewels earrings during an official dinner in the country, which was a jewellery brand founded in Jaipur.
Meghan Markle has also chosen to do the same in a way to support local artists and designers.
She chose Scottish brand Strathberry for her bag and wore a tartan coat for her visit to Edinburgh in 2018, which prompted the bag seller not only to sell out but to launch a bag in her name.
An expert has revealed some of the other things Kate Middleton would have to hand when she travels.
According to Marcia Moody’s 2013 novel, ‘Kate: A Biography’, the Duchess carried some beauty items that many women often choose to have with them when she when to Canada in 2016.
She explained she had a “compact mirror, blotting paper, a handkerchief and lip balm.” While she would not use them in public, they are useful to have in private.
Blotting paper can remove oil and shine, something important when having photographs taken by the paparazzi.
Lip balm and a compact mirror would be useful to keep herself looking neat and tidy.
