Kate Garraway horrified as chicken has 'accident' on Susanna Reid’s dress live on GMB

The 50-year-old ITV presenter and her co-host Ben Shephard, 43, were joined by guests from the HenPower programme, which aims to combat loneliness among the elderly using the birds.

Ben introduced two pensioners who were enjoying the benefits of the scheme, one of whom had a feathered friend on her lap.

Kate was also getting into the spirit of the unusual idea with another chicken, Clara, nestled in her arms as she conducted the interview.

“Why chickens? Why do they make you feel so good?” she asked. “What’s so great about chickens?

“Although, now I’m holding one I think I kind of get it already,” she added. “It’s very comforting.”

Stroking the hen serenely, the Good Morning Britain favourite quipped: “This one’s a bit like me, it keeps clucking.”

HenPower uses the hens to bring comfort to people who are lonely and the elderly people involved have even done sewing and art classes in the company of the animals, using them as models for painting and mosaics.

As Ben quizzed the elderly guests about the benefits, Kate could be seen gentle rocking Clara in her lap.

However, as the segment drew to a close, Kate appeared concerned, lifting the chicken up and looking down suspiciously.

“I’m a little bit worried this one’s had a little accident,” she said, as Ben looked displeased.

“We’ll be alright. It’s actually Susanna’s dress!” Kate laughed. “She’ll never know, I’ll have it dry cleaned by the time she’s back after Christmas.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
