Jumanji’s Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson speaks out after inspiring a musical stage show

The actor, who is currently riding high with surprise box office hit Jumanji, is the inspiration behind The People’s Rock, which focusses on an 18-year-old girl in 2050 with a huge Rock obsession.

With a focus on puppets, the show runs from January 24 to 28 at the Network Theatre, as part of the capital’s VAULT Festival.

Johnson reacted on Twitter: “Ah a musical inspired by yours truly. Cool.. who’s hitting the high notes?

“Read the premiere. Entertaining, with a strong 18yr old female voice. I love it!

“Break a leg and I’m there in spirit! #ThePeoplesRock @VAULTFestival.”

A synopsis for the show reads: “2050. The world is not as we know it. Tee is 18, busy with friends, frustrated by family, and obsessed with celebrity, especially her hero Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

“Tee has no interest in politics. She doesn’t think about the wars raging just beyond the wall which surrounds her home.

“There is no democracy. There is no religion. There is no internet.

“When The Rock is inexplicably erased from society, Tee is heartbroken.

“Why does no one else care? Why do they pretend he never existed? Why do they keep telling her to shut up?

“Tee knows he was real and she won’t rest until she discovers the truth about his disappearance. Something’s cooking and it smells like revolution!”

Johnson’s latest movie Jumanji has defied analysts’ expectation at the box office, and is still riding high at the box office after a month on release.

Launched in the shadow of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it generated lukewarm reviews but hugely enthusiastic word of mouth.

Johnson will next be seen in Rampage, which is currently in post-production and is due this April.
