James Bond 25 news: Daniel Craig update revealed as Spectre writers return

A report claimed on Thursday that the writers will be back to deliver the next British blockbuster about the nation’s favourite MI5 agent.

Purvis and Wade are seasoned screenwriters with a familiar connection to the series, having penned the last six Bond films.

While they have garnered mixed success and conflicting reviews for their take on the story, the revelation of their return from the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye comes as a welcome nugget for fans desperately awaiting announcements on the next phase for the character.

The pair weren’t initially planning to be a part of Spectre back in 2012 when they issued a statement on their departure from Eon Productions.

However, Purvis and Wade still ended up collaborating on the script, along with John Logan and Jez Butterworth. The film was a critical and commercial success worldwide, continuing to cement the series’ popularity with viewers.

News for the latest instalment has been thin on the ground since, as Daniel Craig continues to decide on his future playing the famous role ever since the release of Spectre.

If the British star, married to Rachel Weisz, does return for Bond 25, it will be his fifth appearance as the character. He is currently tied with Pierce Brosnan, whose Bond films include GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies, and remains three films behind Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

There has been huge speculation for who could take over Craig in the franchise, with headliners including Tom Hiddleston, Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba. The favourite by bookies currently stands with Fassbender heading up a potential new string of movies.

Director Sam Mendes already confirmed he won’t be returning for a third time behind the camera in May last year, stating: “It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it, but I think it’s time for somebody else.”

Spectre grossed over $ 880 million globally at the box office, and Skyfall took an even more impressive $ 1 billion after its release in 2012.

These figures lead to enormous expectation for 007’s next appearance on the big screen.
