Ashley Madison, a married dating website, surveyed its members on their coffee drinking habits, their preferred coffee brand and if they choose coffee shops to meet with their extramarital partners. 

The data shows that Costa Coffee ranked first among British respondents as their preferred coffee shop to meet an affair partner. 

With approximately 2,121 locations in the UK, Britons are staying true to their national brand as Costa Coffee tops the list for favourite coffee franchises among British Ashley Madison members. 

Coming in second is Starbucks followed by independent coffee shops in third. 

Favourite coffee shop franchises for British members: 

Costa Coffee – 28 per cent 

Starbucks – 24 per cent 

Independent coffee shops – 20 per cent 

Caffe Nero – 9 per cent 

Cafe2U – 1 per cent 

Coffee shops are a go-to place for people to sit down, have a chat and get to know each other in a public space. 

Although not always the space people will go to meet on an extramarital date, some do, and when they do they stay loyal to their favourite coffee shops with 12 per cent stating they have met with their extramarital partner at a Costa Coffee. 

Top three coffee shops to meet with an affair partner:

Costa coffee – 12 per cent 

Starbucks – 12 per cent 

Independent coffee shops – 4 per cent
