Ryanair’s UK-based cabin crew are reported to be planning a secret strike, which could cause mayhem for UK passengers’ flights.
An anonymous flight attendant has revealed that cabin crew could be planning a mass strike, in response to Ryanair’s actions over the past few weeks.
She revealed that many staff are fed up of working for the airline, and that they are considering moving to easyJet.
The flight attendant told the Telegraph: “It is written in our contracts that we are not allowed to be in unions, but colleagues from my base and not only (mine), are planning a strike before moving to Norwegian and easyJet.
“Imagine that the five aircraft of our base will not depart on one day. And we are talking only about five aircraft in my base. It will be a mess.”
A mass cabin crew strike would be likely to cause a wealth of problems for those flying to and from the UK in weeks to come.
Will customers be able to claim back the cost of flights cancelled as a result of any strike actions?
Express.co.uk has contacted Ryanair for comment, but the airline has yet to respond.
This would not be the first time Ryanair passengers are left dissatisfied with service from Ryanair.
The carrier cancelled 2,100 flights in September and October – which the airline claimed was due to mistake when allocating pilots’ holiday.
Many customers were left stranded and had no choice but to pay for another flight home.
Ryanair then came under fire for not giving customers all the information when it comes to their rights to claim compensation. However Ryanair backed down and agreed to give full compensation after a CAA warning.
How much compensation are customers whose flights are cancelled owed?
Does travel insurance cover strike action? According to award-winning travel insurance provider, Multitrip.com, most policies do not cover strikes and industrial action.
They state: “Many policies exclude cover for strike action and deem it the responsibility of the airlines to provide a refund to the customer for a cancelled flight or provide an option to travel on a different date.”
However, some policies do cover strike, so it is important to check the terms of your insurance if you are worried your flight may be cancelled due to strike action.
This morning London Stansted was forced to hold flights while the Ryanair plane was escorted by fighter jets after an emergency on board.
