Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave President Donald Trump a big hug during a joint statement in the Rose Garden that followed Modi’s White House visit Monday.
The hug came after Trump praised Modi for his tenure as India’s head of state. The president touted Modi’s governance, citing his tax policies and the military cooperation between the two countries.
“I enjoyed our very productive conversation this afternoon, and look forward to its continuation tonight at dinner,” Trump said prior to the embrace. “The future of our partnership has never looked brighter. India and the United States are always tied together in friendship and respect.”
Addressing pool reporters in the Oval Office alongside Modi earlier on Monday, Trump said the pair agrees “on most things.”
“I would say by the end of the day we’ll agree on everything,” Trump said, according to a pool report. “I have a feeling.”
Trump previously made an effort to target Indian-American voters during the presidential campaign by cutting an ad that played off of Modi’s campaign slogan.
