I’ll keep going into my 70s says Anita

Anita, 40, who started on the Sunday night BBC One series in 2015, would love to follow veteran John, 77, a host since 1989.

Anita said: “He is amazing and there is no reason why any woman should have to retire if she doesn’t want to. If I could continue on Countryfile for another 30 years I’d be very happy.

“It’s really important to hand it down, but not before I’m 70, kids, I’ve only just got here!”

She adds: “It’s amazing to work on the most popular programme on British television. There’s not many programmes that you can watch with granny, the grandkids and the dog on the sofa.

“What is incredible is how many children enjoy Countryfile. It’s so important for the future.”

Anita was at BBC Countryfile Live at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire with fellow presenters, including Ellie Harrison, 40, this weekend.

She said she enjoyed a competition to find young hosts.

“It wasn’t just the amount of kids that applied, it was the passion and just how excited the kids get.”
