Iain Duncan Smith hits out at ITN following Alastair Stewart exit ‘You deserve a chance’

Duncan Smith continued: “We had to report huge swathes of the stuff that went onto social media to the police – threatening, angry, death threats, threats.

“I just take the view that by and large, Twitter is an abusive medium, and I don’t engage by that regard, but others do.”

The 65-year-old then addressed Stewart’s case directly, admitting he was “sorry” to see such a veteran in the world of broadcasting dismissed in such a way.

He added: “I’m sorry about Alastair Stewart because I liked him very much as a broadcaster.
