Meghan Markle has hit back at critics after it emerged that the Duchess of Sussex’s given first names ‘Rachel Meghan’ were removed from son Archie’s birth certificate. The Duchess rebuked suggestions that she had wanted to be “nameless” on her own child’s birth certificate, before adding that the Palace asked for her to make the change. Speaking on This Morning, Julia Hartley-Brewer mocked the Meghan Markle birth certificate row.
On the original certificate for Archie, registered on May 17, 2019, the Duchess gave her name as “Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex”.
However, less than a month later, the Duke and Duchess submitted changes to their names, with Meghan’s name “corrected” to merely read “Her Royal Highness Duchess of Sussex”.
Ms Hartley-Brewer said: “Surely, is there anyone, anyone at all who actually cares about this?
“I don’t even understand why their titles are included in terms of the names.”

This Morning host Holly Willoughby responded: “I think she cares about it, doesn’t she? I think everyone has a right to be represented fairly.
“That’s a really simple thing that every human being wants and desires, and she is the same.”
Ms Hartley-Brewer said: “I just had Julia Hartley-Brewer on the birth certificate for my daughter, I didn’t put Empress of the World on mine either.
“Does it really matter in the big scheme of things? The fact that everything this woman does becomes front page news.
“I’m not a fan of hers particularly but I think people need to give her a break.”
In response to the reports, a spokeswoman for the Duchess of Sussex said: “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials.
“This was not requested by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex nor by The Duke of Sussex.”
