
Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy, has enjoyed a fantastic business career. The 91-year-old has died overnight, but what was his net worth in 2017? The creator of the magazine is reported to have died peacefully of natural causes in his LA home, surrounded by loved ones.
The nude magazine entrepreneur was said to be worth a whopping $ 200 million (£149,566,260) at Playboy’s peak and he sold his famous Playboy mansions for $ 100m (£74,783,130) in August 2016.
However, Playboy had struggled between 2000 and 2010, with stocks diminishing.
However, according to website Celebrity Net Worth, Hugh was worth $ 50 million. (£37,391,565).
Playboy magazine was found in 1953, and featured many beautiful starlets on the cover and in its pages.
First Lady Melania Trump has posed in the illustrious magazine, as have some of the worlds most famous women, such as Kim Kardashian and Marilyn Monroe.
While the magazine was mainly known for it’s nude shoots, it also featured writings an short stories from illustrious authors.
These included Arthur C. Clarke, Ian Fleming, Vladimir Nabokov, Saul Bellow, Chuck Palahniuk, P. G. Wodehouse, Haruki Murakami, and Margaret Atwood.
Celebrities have lead tributes to the American businessman, including Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton.
A spokesman for Playboy Enterprises said: “Hugh M Hefner, the American icon who in 1953 introduced the world to Playboy magazine and built the company into one of the most recognisable American global brands in history, peacefully passed away today from natural causes at his home, The Playboy Mansion, surrounded by loved ones.”
Kim Kardashian tweeted: “Paris & I are reminiscing about the Playboy parties at the mansion & how much we love Hef. She’s texts me the perfect Hef emojis.”
She added: “RIP to the legendary Hugh Hefner! I’m so honored to have been a part of the Playboy team! You will be greatly missed! Love you Hef! Xoxo”
Hugh Hefner was married three times in his life. His first wife Mildred Williams, who is now also 91-years-old, was married to the tycoon for ten years and the couple had two children, Christie and David.
They divorced in 1959, and in 1989 Hugh married Kimberly Conrad, 55, an American model and actress. They were married for 11 years and has children Cooper and Marston.
In the years leading up to his death Hugh was married to American model and DJ Crystal Harris, 31.
Crystal was Playboy Playmate of the Month for December 2009 and married Hugh in 2012
