Hotel secrets have revealed some shocking facts about the hospitality industry.
Dirty bedding and kettle hacks are just some of the things guests may wish they have never learnt.
Yet one thing that often plagues the most frequent traveller is what items are allowed to be taken home after a stay and which ones aren’t.
Thankfully this has now been solved.
MailOnline’s etiquette expert William Hanson explained which ones are free to take and are allowed by the hotel.
He said: “In terms of the toiletries left out by hotels if they are half used it is often better to take them as it is better for the environment and in many cases is encouraged.”
Other items that have been used and cannot be given to new guests also fall into this category.
Mr Hanson went on: “Other items that are already in the bathroom such as slippers are also fine to take as they cannot be used again once a guest has been wearing them.”
A number of items, however, are not fair game and must be left in the hotel or risk being charged.
Many may feel the need to take a few things from the housekeeping cart as well but this is “just stealing”, he warns.
Ex-hotel worker Jacob Tomsky disagreed about the house cart rule being seen as stolen items.
He told the Telegraph: “Consider the unmanned housekeeper’s trolley a smash and grab situation.
“Pack your bags full of almond butter hand cream and guava face soap with espresso crisps.”
The most common items stolen from is the fluffy towels, according to the Telegraph.
Over 68 per cent admitted to taking one home with them after a stay despite the risk of being charged when leaving.
Items such as curtains and picture frames even made the list.
