Hotel secrets: Never pay more when dining by doing THIS

Hotels can provide guests the perfect setting to relax and unwind in comfort whilst enjoying excellent service and attention.

Yet sometimes, busy bustling dining rooms and the company of other guests can be a little intimidating.

Thankfully hotel rooms provide all you could possibly need for a comfortable night in one room with further food and refreshments just a phone call away.

There is, however, one thing you can do you ensure you get the best room service at the best value for money.

Hotels will advertise that their room service menu fares up to the same prices at the hotel restaurant, but food critic, John Mariani, disagrees.

He told USA Today “they are usually somewhat higher plus they add a massive service charge and very often, a gratuity.”

Food author, Larry Olmsted went on to add “in many cases, the exact same dishes are priced higher on the room service menu than in the hotel restaurants.”

Room service is typically available 24 hours a day, so an extra charge is added for the inconvenience of service.

However, when speaking to IOL, frequent traveller Samantha Brown, reveals a secret for getting to the best price when dining at a hotel.

Samantha often orders room service as this keeps costs low and saves her money but she does not order from the typical menu.

She explained that the best piece of advice she was ever given was from a 10-year-old girl who told her: Listen, order off the children’s menu, because they give you the exact same portions of spaghetti Bolognese with meatballs (as on the adult menu), but you’re paying half the cost.”

Another thing to consider when ordering service to your room, such as considering how well the items ordered will travel.

With boiled eggs, for instance, they may be perfectly cooked by the time they leave the kitchen but by the time they travelled up seven or eight floors, they may have overcooked.

There are other ways you can save money when booking a hotel.

For instance, being prepared and booking a room a month in advance could save you as much as 15 per cent.

A recent study by Vouchercloud revealed that, on average, a hotel room gets cheaper by £3.30 for every week you book in advance.
