Hotel review Splendid Venice: Four star boutique luxury with a rooftop terrace of DREAMS

Venice can be loud, busy and overwhelming so its important to invest in a hotel that’s calming and tranquil.

Splendid Venice, part of the Starhotels Collezione, is in the very heart of the city a stone’s throw from St. Mark’s Square and Rialto Bridge.

But walking through the front door it’s clear they’ve worked hard to make sure it’s a quiet, stylish hub for visitors to relax in away from the crowds.

What used to be a humble inn during the 16th century is now one of the most impressively artistic and fashionable hotels in Venice.

Unlike other larger hotels in the city, Splendid Venice is very much built like the local homes in the area.

The building is tall and corridors thin, but the rooms use space wisely and feel spacious.

Dripping in Italian opulence, the junior suite was on the second floor down a winding corridor.

Golden tones mixed with cream furniture made the room feel every bit like an A-list space. A huge bed was paired with a separate dressing area and lavish marble bathroom.

Walking into the hotel, visitors are greeted by a concierge desk placed perfectly by the private water entrance.

The opportunity to get a private transfer, by gondola or boat, to the door of the hotel is something not every place offers – and is certainly a sign of a very smart hotel.

It’s tradition that homes and hotels of grandeur in Venice have striped mooring poles – paline de casada – in the water outside the building.

Splendid Venice had several beautiful red and white striped paline de casada. Gondola and boats frequently glided past the building with tourists looking in awe.

The designers of the hotel positioned the bar so anyone enjoying an an Aperol Spritz or glass of local Prosecco can look out the huge windows onto the peaceful lapping of the canal.

On the roof there is the most spectacular terrace looking out over the skyline.

Espresso is self-service or the hotel opens a bar in the evening so people can enjoy sunset with a drink.

Its central location makes it perfect for anyone who wants to explore the city on foot.
