Hand luggage suitcases are subject to strict rules when travelling through security.
Many items are not allowed into the cabin such as sharp objects or liquids over 100ml.
Toiletries such as make up and perfume are allowed onboard under these limits.
However, some perfumes are not allowed into the cabin no matter what the size is.
London City Airport advises travellers against carrying aftershave by Victor & Rolf called Spicebomb.
The aftershave for men comes in a a bottle that is modelled on a grenade.
While the clear bottle is allowed onboard (under 100ml), the black glass bottle is strictly banned.
This is because of it’s similarity to a real grenade which could cause confusion and even evacuation of the airport.
In 2012, a 25-year-old passenger caused panic at Edinburgh Airport after attempting to travel with it.
A similar aftershave by Azzara called Wanted is allowed onboard under 100ml, despite looking similar to a revolver gun.
The airport website warned the restricted fragrance list was not “exhaustive” so passengers are advised to use common sense with their perfume bottles.
Any replica or souvenir items which look like a weapon will often be confiscated.
London City warn banned items include: “Toy guns, replica and imitation firearms or perfume or aftershave bottles that resemble grenades or other firearms or weapons.”
Gifts that are wrapped up may also be subject to further checks by security, so it is advised to leave gifts unwrapped.
Other liquids under 100ml are also banned including restricted chemicals.
These include bleaching agents such as chlorine which can often be found in hair dye, and therefore cannot be carried.
Medicines are also subject to the 100ml rule unless there is a medical note alongside it.
If it needs to be over 100ml, it is advised to keep in hand luggage alongside the prescription.
This is in case the bag is lost between departing and landing, to prevent any health problems when abroad.
