GMB host Piers Morgan clashes with Brexiteer over border control – 'Answer the question!'

The controversial broadcaster, 52, pressed the Labour politician when she appeared on the ITV news programme to discuss reports that Prime Minister Theresa May could be set to double it’s original Brexit bill offer to £38 billion.

As the conversation turned to the expectations laid out by the Vote Leave campaign, Piers Morgan quizzed: “My sense is that very, very few people outside of the hardcore campaigners actually understood the real complexity of what we were doing when we voted in the referendum.

“I don’t think anybody really got it,” he told the former MP. “Come May 2019, do you not think that, for example, on border control, there might be very little difference from what we’ve been seeing and what we will then see once we’ve Brexited?

“In other words,” he continued. “The reality of border control, which for me was the fundamental number one reason Leave won, might not actually change at all?”

“And it’s quite interesting,” she replied, before Piers cut her off, insisting: “Do you agree with me?”

“Hold on,” she said, as he ploughed on: “Answer the question!” It’s a yes or no, Gisela.”

“Give me a chance,” Gisela laughed, as Piers chipped in: “You no longer have to obfuscate, you can just give me a straight answer.”

“I chair something called Change Britain,” she finally answered. “We did focus groups in Leave constituencies and Remain constituencies and we talked about what immigration policy would be the right.

“It’s quite interesting that both sides end up with a kind of Australian-style points system, which we already have for about half of our immigration,” Gisela explained. “What will be different is that the entire immigration policy will be in the hands of the elected parliament. And that’s the difference.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
