The 21-year-old also disclosed that the new season will have a large number of references to the first season.

She said she had to go back an rewatch Season 1 due to the references and wanting to remind herself of her character’s incredible arc.

“After reading the scripts I went back and watched Season 1 again because so much of it refers back to that season,” Maisie explained.

“There are so many scenes that will look similar.

“And also I watched just to remind myself of the arc I’ve taken already.

“I wanted Arya to go full circle and try for some kind of normalcy like when she was younger.”

The actress, who has been a part of the HBO show since 2011, also spoke of her friendship with co-star Sophie Turner, who plays her on-screen sister Sansa Stark.

She said that the pair develop a closer bond in the show compared to another season, but due to their relationship there was “no acting required”.

Maisie added: “It’s not often you see a character siding with Sansa who’s not manipulating her.”

Season 8 will be the last of Game of Thrones and according to Maisie, the end is not easy.

She said: “People don’t want it to end. No matter how you end it, people don’t want it to end.

“So the ending is not going to be okay, because ‘the end’ is not okay.

“You know what I mean? I think the way we end it is right. And I think it’s time.”

Thinking about the future and her career after Game of Thrones, the star admitted she was “nervous”.

She said she shops to “prove herself as an actor now and make the most of this series”.

Game of Thrones Season 8’s first episode will air on April 14.
