Jon Snow (played by Kit Harrington) was last seen heading back to Winterfell with his new lover Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) after trying to convince Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) to join their fight against the Night King (Vladimir Furdik).
The pair presenter the Game of Thrones villain with a wight, which they captured during a dangerous mission beyond the wall earlier in season seven.
The wight appeared to be enough to convince Cersei to send the Lannister army north to assist with their battle against the army of the dead.
However, fans know Cersei has no intention of helping Jon and Daenery.
The northern lords will no doubt be furious Jon has tried to team with Cersei as well as Daenerys.
Jon’s risky actions to save Westeros could in fact leave him in a very difficult position.
A new theory suggests the northern lords will turn against him, which could lead to Sansa (Sophie Turner) or Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) being taken hostage.
Reddit user darrylthedudeWayne mused: “We all know that the Northerners will have an issue with Jon bending the knee and brining a Targaryen queen to the North.
“Yes Jon may convince them (or the wights themselves will via the northern lords seeing them for the first time) to get used to it, but what if some of them betray Jon.”
The fan goes on to suggest the northern lords will choose to leave the North and team up with Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) and the Golden Company to attack Winterfell.
When they attack the home of the Starks, Euron will take Sansa or Arya hostage and deliver them to Cersei.
“We know that the northern lords will have a problem with Jon bending the knee, and it would be interesting if one or two of them betrayed Jon or at least attempted to betray Jon,” they concluded.
It certainly seems likely as recent images taken near the Game of Thrones set at Moneyglass in Northern Ireland appear to show the aftermath of a battle.
In the snaps obtained by fan site Winter Is Coming, corpses can be seen strewn across the fields surrounding the castle.
A zoomed in photo appears to show four figures standing in a huddle around a body – could it be one of the Starks?
The cast and crew have been teasing fans of the hit HBO series about what they can expect when the show returns next year.
HBO’s Senior Vice President of Drama, Francesca Orsi, recently opened up about the season eight script reading.
“[The table read] was a really powerful moment in our live and our career,” she said at the INTV Conference in Israel.
“None of the cast had received their scripts prior, and one by one they started to fall down to their deaths.
“It was amazing. By the very end, everyone looked down and looked up and tears were in their eyes.”
Game of Thrones will return to Sky Atlantic and HBO in 2019.
