Game of Thrones is no stranger to a bit of foreshadowing in its storylines.
The big question for many fans of the HBO series is who will end up on the Iron Throne.
That is, if anyone ends up sitting on the coveted seat of power.
However, one fan believes those who have made claims to the throne are doomed to never become the King or Queen of Westeros.
The theory stems from a conversation held between Tywin Lannister (played by Charles Dance) and Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson).
Reddit user laser-circus wrote: “Way back when Tywin and Joffrey were alive, this quote always stuck out to me and has served as an indicator to see who would be the true king in the end. Tywin said to Joffrey: Any man who must say ‘I am the king’ is no true king.
“And by extension, I believe that would also pertain to women who have said they are the queen ruler of the seven kingdoms.
“I think anyone who made that mistake would spell their failure to actually rule in the end or even survive it. It didn’t work well for anyone that said it before. The Baratheon brothers, Joffrey, and etc. have also had to say they were kings ended up dead.
“So neither Cersei, Dany nor Jon will sit on that throne in the end because they have all had to make their position as rightful ruler known to others.
“I realised that when Jon wanted to leave Dragonstone and stated that he is the king to Dany. It’s too bad, but… he dead. That’s my theory anyway.”
Could this mean those who have declared a claim to the throne, like Cersei (Lena Headey) and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), will never claim it?
It remains to be seen whether anyone will end up on the throne at all.
Despite many being after it, it could be that all the characters are wiped out before anybody gets the chance to.
The White Walkers and the wights are on their way down south and everyone is at risk.
One star of the show has predicted it could have quite a brutal ending.
Richard Madden played Robb Stark on the fantasy epic before his untimely demise at the Red Wedding.
He said of the finale to the Hollywood Reporter: “I kind of think it’s just going to be three dragons flying around, and everyone else is dead.
”It’s a possibility!”
Although a definite date for the final is yet to be revealed, it looks to be sometime in April.
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic later this year. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
