Game of Thrones season 8: Daenerys Targaryen EXPOSED as MAJOR villain – here’s why

Game of Thrones fans on Reddit have been speculating on Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) emerging as the major villain of season eight and their logic makes perfect sense.

She is not the most obvious choice for the villain and if the history of the hit HBO show is anything to go by that would make her the perfect villain in a series that has had so many twist and turns.

One Reddit user explains what a Game of Thrones villain needs to be: “Both the show and the book series seek to portray a fantasy setting in realistic terms, clearly displaying the grim aspects of medieval life, the brutality of warfare, and the grey morality of its characters.

“That’s why I don’t think that either the Night King (a supernatural entity with absolutely no characterisation) or Cersei (a comically evil despot) will be the big bads.

“Both characters are too easy to root against, and having a clear conflict between good and evil doesn’t seem in line with what we have seen from the first seven seasons.”

So, the villain needs to be a realistic villain and someone who is not just a typical baddy in fantasy films or series.

This is why Daenerys is perfect as this sort of villain: “Daenerys Targaryen will end as the big bad, because she would be an interesting, and dangerous villain. She is extremely powerful, possessing the largest army as well as dragons.

“She is sympathetic, having been abused and hunted her whole life, punished for the sins of her family, yet still being generous to those closest to her.

“And she has great moral arguments, seeking to abolish slavery, end the chaos in Westeros, stop the Dothraki and the Ironborn from raiding and raping, and become a queen in a world dominated by men.”

She has been set up perfectly to assume the role of chief villain in a series that has treated fans to so many twists and turns and character arcs that shift between good and evil.

Danaerys has so far trodden a fine line between morality and personal gain that a leader traditionally has to navigate.

However, other fans see her as too bad to be the villain the season finale needs. One Reddit user argued: “Morally, Daenerys is undoubtedly a hero, but from an ethical standpoint, she is completely bankrupt.

“At the end of the day, she won’t be changing the political situation in Westeros (Jon: “You’re just more of the same.”), since her rule would not be one of laws, but one of her own personal discretion.

“Time and again, she has shown that the only crime she punishes is disloyalty. She uses brutal methods to enforce her worldview, and she has a messianic complex about her own actions.

“She wants to abolish slavery, yet she commands an army of slavers, and her closest ally was banished for slavery.”

She has a moral viewpoint, but her greater lust for personal gain makes her the perfect villain in season eight in scenes that would shock viewers.

Alongside the rumour of her as the Big Bad, The Game of Thrones season eight episode one and two first photos have been released and it looks like Daenerys may be pregnant.

In the image, she is holding her stomach in what is a storyline tease that no one saw coming.

Could the baby be Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) after it was revealed he is half Targaryen and the incestuous link between the two could be the key to her conceiving a baby.

Fans will have to wait less than two weeks to find out whether Daenerys is in the fact the major villain and what impact she will have on the Battle of Winterfell.

Game of Thrones season eight premieres on April 14 on HBO and Sky Atlantic and on NOW TV on April 15.
