Game of Thrones season 8: Arya Stark’s weapon’s purpose revealed in season 6 clue?

The first episode of the final season of Game of Thrones saw Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) give Gendry (Joe Dempsie) a drawing of the weapon she wanted.

The drawing showed a staff Arya wanted to be able to break into two parts, complete with a spear made from Dragonglass at one end and another blade at the other.

The second instalment saw the blacksmith present her with it, and some fans have been reminded of another weapon Arya has dealt with.

As fans of the HBO series will remember, Arya went to join the Faceless Men in season five where she met the Waif (Faye Marsay).

The Waif carried a staff that she used to hit Arya with and the Stark girl also learned to fight with it herself.

Fans have pointed out the resemblance between Gendry’s creation and the staff used by the Waif.

“Arya’s new weapon seems… familiar,” wrote Reddit user RonnieBear87 alongside a photo of the Waif holding the weapon.

Arya was blinded as she fought the Waif with the staff and some viewers think this is why she may have ordered Gendry to make her something with a similar design.

The Battle of Winterfell is approaching and it’s likely Arya could be blinded by the elements if a blizzard sets in.

On top of that, if she finds herself in total darkness, Arya has the skills to defend herself due to her experience.

She ultimately managed to kill the Waif because she lured her to her hideout in the sixth season and cut out the lights.

One fan replied to the theory suggesting it could be foreshadowing a fight in the blackout for Arya and a White Walker.

Reddit user ProgrammerNextDoor asked: “Is this foreshadowing her fighting some white walker in the dark?”

While BigBacon87 theorised: “She’s gonna lead the white walkers into the crypt and then it’s lights out.”

After Gendry handed the weapon over to Arya, the situation took a steamy turn.
