Game of Thrones season 7: Liam Cunningham SLAMS enormous pay rise rumours

Rumours began to emerge that some of the main actors of the HBO smash Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke – who recently made waves for her raunchy sex scene, Kit Harington, Lena Headey and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau were about to receive mammoth pay rises for the last two seasons of the show.

But the man who plays loveable sea-farer and straight talking Davos Seaworthy, laughed at the idea.

He said: “What?! You think the Game of Thrones works like a pensionable job in the civil service? Where the last men standing get the most money? It doesn’t!

“Every time I see a new figure thrown around, €1m per episode, €2m per episode, I burst me ribs laughing. My bank manager is having a good laugh at it, too.”

The Dublin actor has surprised fans of George R.R. Martin’s TV adaptation by not getting killed off in the show, time and time again. Could this series be the one that chooses to axe the fan-favourite?

Reports of numerous spin-offs have also been rife, as writer Martin took to his blog Sunday night to clarify a few details on the projects.

He confirmed: “Yes, I am involved, and have been for months. I had my first meeting with HBO about the possibility of a successor show back in August, when I pitched them two possible series.

“We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. The one goal that EVERYONE involved shares here is to make these new shows just as good as Game of Thrones itself. No easy task, mind you,” he added.

The HBO smash catapulted onto screens seven years ago and its popularity meant that stars of the series had their pay packets increase quite rapidly too, but not quite to the heights of hits such as the Big Bang Theory.

The 55-year-old actor insisted that the wage is nowhere near as high as what’s been reported.

He told the Irish Independent: “It is not filmed in the States; if you had an American deal, there would be a lot more “residuals” so you can’t compare shows that are filmed here to shows that are filmed over there.”

Game of Thrones season 7 begins on Monday, July 17 on Sky Atlantic.
