Game of Thrones cast: Natalie Dormer UNRECOGNISABLE as she undergoes new TV transformation

Natalie Dormer is one of the most recognisable actresses in the business right now, having carved a memorable place in the world of Westeros on Game of Thrones.

Yet now the Hunger Games star has been seen for the first time in an adaptation of the classic story Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Dressed in 1990s garb, the star wears her hair tightly wound in a top-bun and sports a steely expression.

She is a far cry from the seductive Margaery who enjoyed letting her long blonde locks trail down her back and wearing sensual clothes in all different colours.

The first official trailer for the series also depicts Natalie in a number of buttoned up classic frocks from the period.

While the series is set Down Under, Natalie will keep her native English accent for the role as the character immigrated to the country.

The series has been picked up by both the BBC and Amazon Prime Video in the US, and sees a group of college girls become embroiled in a terrible mystery that ends in death.

The 36-year-old actress plays the ice-cold headmistress Mrs Hester Appleyard in the six-part retelling.

She warns the girls in her care not to “wander off” while on a trip out to “Hanging Rock” on Valentine’s Day, but things go badly wrong.

Amazon Prime have already tweeted that the new series will be dropping on their streaming service May 25, but UK viewers will likely have to wait until later this year.

The BBC’s head Programming Acquisitions Sue Deeks revealed the drama will have a completely “fresh” spin on the original story.

She revealed last year: “It is with great pleasure that we confirm the BBC as the UK home for this new, fresh take on Picnic at Hanging Rock.

“The combination of creative team and cast – led by one of Britain’s most exciting actors, Natalie Dormer – will make for a must-see series.

“For both fans of the classic novel and those coming to this wonderful story for the first time.”

The novel in question was originally written in 1967 by Australian author Joan Lindsay.

It was adapted initially for director Peter Weir’s 1975 film of the same name, and remained a cult classic ever since.

The latest project will be directed by Better Call Saul alumna Larysa Kondracki.

She has also lent her talents to apocalyptic hit The Walking Dead and Benjamin Mackenzie-starring show Gotham in the past.

The series also stars Orange Is The New Black actress Yael Stone, Swim Little Fish Swim star Lola Bessis and Samara Weaving.

Picnic at Hanging Rock is expected to debut later this year on BBC One.
