Feud: Viewers praise Jessica Lange amid SHOCK over C-bomb and F-bombs in season premiere

The eight-part miniseries from American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy follows the behind-the-scenes battles between the two acting heavyweights on the set of their psychological thriller What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

Episode one aired last night in America and set the scene with Jessica Lange taking on the part of Joan while Susanna Sarandon played Bette as they shot the 1962 film.

However, the opener also revealed how studio executives were trying to replace the two leads, who were in their 50s at this point and their careers in decline, with Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day.

Following the broadcast of the first instalment, Feud has already garnered much praise from audiences and critics alike, leading many people to take to social media to discuss the programme.

“Episode 1 of #Feud was brillance. Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange slayed!! [sic],” said one viewer.

As another reminded some doubting viewers: “Are people shocked that Jessica Lange is that good? She has 2 Oscars, 5 Golden Globes, 3 Emmy’s and 1 Tony #JessicaLange #FeudFX #FEUD.”

Someone else added: “#Feud #JessicaLange is a better #JoanCrawford than #SusanSarandon is #BetteDavis but they’re both cracking me up in their scenes together.”

However, there was also shock among a number of Feud viewers over the foul-mouthed language used in the programme.

“I’m 28 minutes into #Feud and they said the F word four times already. Is that ok on TV now?” posted one stunned viewer.

“#FeudFX ok so now 31 minutes into #Feud and five F-bombs and one C You Next Thursday,” tweeted a second person.

A third tweeted: “So many F-bombs! #feud” and another equally surprised audience member wrote on the micro-blogging platform: “Omg. They used the C-word. #Feud.”

Feud also star Catherine Zeta-Jones as Olivia de Havilland, Stanley Tucci as Jack L. Warner, Alfred Molina as Robert Aldrich and Kathy Bates as Joan Blondell.

Even though the pilot only aired yesterday, US broadcaster FX has already commissioned a second season – consisting of 10 episodes – and will focus on the feud between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

The series does not yet have a UK broadcaster and it is not know when Feud will be airing in Britain.
