While the original Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them book was released for Red Nose Day in 2001, the author has now updated it for the new franchise.
Apart from more of Newt Scamander’s back story, some information on his relationship with young Dumbledore, who is yet to be cast for the new movie, has come light.
The new forward written by Rowling as Newt reads: “It is true that I was the first person ever to capture Gellert Grindelwald and also true that Albus Dumbledore was something more than a schoolteacher to me.
“More than this I cannot say without fear of breaching the Official Magical Secrets Act or, more importantly, the confidences that Dumbledore, most private of men, placed in me.”
So what could these secrets they shared be?
Fans have been speculating that one could certainly be to do with an Obscurial, just like Credence Barebone in last year’s film, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
An Obscurial is a young Witch or Wizard who develops a mysterious force of power called an Obscurus, when they suppress their magical abilities.
One theory argues that Dumbledore’s sister Ariana was an Obscurial.
Another extract in the new update sees Newt defending himself against accusations by Rita Skeeter that he was Dumbledore’s spy, sent to New York to infiltrate the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA).
While Rita is known in the Harry Potter books for writing fake news, wouldn’t it be interesting if she was right?
After all, Grindelwald was discovered at the end of the first film to be disguised as Percival Graves, the Director of Magical Security, so maybe Dumbledore knew something.
Fantastic Beasts 2 will be released in UK cinemas on November 16, 2018.
