Fans left angered as Coronation Street and Emmerdale CANCELLED ‘Shame on you ITV'

The Confederations Cup semi-finals take place in Russia at the end of the month, so a number of episodes of both soaps will be switched around on their home channel ITV.

Both shows will be cut from their usual line-up on Wednesday June 28 – Emmerdale at 7pm, and Coronation Street at 7.30pm – and while the Cobbles will return the day after, Emmerdale is still absent from its 7pm and 8pm slots.

Instead, viewers can expect some special extended episodes of the series’ when Emmerdale shifts to Tuesday June 20 and Tuesday June 27, but news of extra time for Weatherfield is currently nowhere to be seen.

Some fans have reacted to the news on Twitter in anger. One said: “How about leaving coronation street schedule alone! Shame on you ITV!.”

And others inventively used hashtags to convey their feelings. One tweeted: “Coronation Street being moved for football #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling.”

However, others seemed to mock the importance of the decision to move around soaps in general for the sport.

One said: “”Due to the football, Coronation Street won’t be on tonight.” #BritishThreatLevels,” while another joked: “Imagine Coronation Street being on the TV instead of football or Love Island.”

Meanwhile, Coronation Street has recently made waves for its harrowing grooming storyline surrounding teenager Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon), who will soon get revenge for her ordeal, and has left viewers struggling to watch the difficult scenes.

One fan commented: “Kills me seeing Bethany like this.. she has no idea of the horror & abuse Nathan has put her through.. it’s really sad #Corrie.”

Coronation Street and Emmerdale air on ITV.
