Eurovision 2017: You won't believe which song was voted best UK entry EVER…

Even though it sadly came second to Spain’s La La La in 1968, Sir Cliff Richard’s Congratulations has been chosen as the nation’s ultimate Eurovision entry.

The poll, carried out by RadioTimes.com, saw more 26 per cent of voters choose the singer’s classic, pipping Bucks Fizz’s 1981 winning song Making Your Mind Up.

Sir Cliff told the website: “I am thrilled that the Radio Times readers have voted Congratulations their favourite Eurovision song.

“Having lost the Song Contest, I am particularly pleased that it finally did win something!” the 76-year-old joked.

He went on to express his gratitude for songwriters Bill Martin and Phil Coulter’s composition after he enjoyed major chart success with it.

Sir Cliff went on: “What a privilege to have recorded a song that will be used to celebrate births, birthdays, and weddings.

“It was even played for me when I received my Knighthood. Many thanks to you all. Love ya,” he added.

Tonight’s UK hopeful Lucie Jones will no doubt be hoping for a similarly successful night with her entry Never Give Up On You.

However, with Brexit controversy surrounding the UK’s entry into the competition, will Lucie’s talent come out on top?

CeCe Sammy, one of the judges who helped to pick Lucie for the momentous role believes that Eurovision can help unite the country in the face of Brexit.

The full results of the Eurovision UK entry poll can be found on RadioTimes.com

The Eurovision Song Contest airs tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
