Car rental company Europcar has been accused of overcharging customers for their services.
They have reportedly been overcharging customers for the repairs of the vehicles.
It is currently under investigation by Trading Standards to see whether this has been the case.
If found to be true, Europcar could have raked in millions of pounds worth of additional costs, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The repairs, including windscreens and other damages, have reported having been increased by up to 300 per cent.
Alex Neill, Which? Managing Director of Home Products and Services spoke out about the accusations: “No-one should be overcharged by car rental companies. If Europcar is found to be inflating costs for repairs, then customers who have been ripped off should be swiftly compensated.
“All car rental firms should be upfront about charges so that consumers can make an informed choice at the time of booking.”
The company could be in breach of the Fraud Act 2006.
Europcar issued a statement regarding the claims: “Europcar takes the allegations very seriously and is conducting a thorough internal investigation.
“The company is co-operating fully with Trading Standards in its investigations. It can make no further comment at this point.”
As one of the biggest rental companies in Europe, Britons who have used them previously could have been affected without realising.
If found guilty of the offences, the company could end up facing a huge fine of ten per cent of its turnover.
