Emmerdale spoilers: Who killed Emma Barton? Flashbacks reveal key clue

Viewers previously watched on as Emma (played by Gillian Kearney) fell to her death after she appeared to jump from the viaduct.

While it initially seemed as though she had taken her own life, the police and forensics are convinced that someone pushed her off the edge.

As viewers try to piece together the puzzle of Emma’s death, the seven suspects will have a flashback on Bonfire night which could reveal a key clue regarding her murder.

But who are the villagers suspected of killing Emma and what is their motive? Here is a round-up of seven suspects.

Ross Barton

Ross (Mike Parr) has been acting very suspiciously in recent episodes and was even spotted burning Emma’s bag.

Furthermore, he could be seen scrambling down the hill next to the viaduct and walking away from his mother’s body.

Could he have killed her in act of revenge after he learned she’d murdered his father James

Pete Barton

Pete (Anthony Quinlan) has also been acting very strangely following his mother’s death but is trying to put his behaviour down to grief.

After learning Emma not only killed his dad but also his younger brother Finn is it possible that he was pushed to end her life?

Adam Barton

Adam (Adam Thomas) is another suspect after he chased Emma into the woods when he believed that she had harmed his mother Moira (Natalie J. Robb) after a showdown in the barn.

Speaking about whether his character is the killer, the soap star noted: “Adam knows he’s got a pretty dodgy track record and a terrible alibi.”

Moira Barton

Moira was Emma’s nemesis and viewers have seen the pair come to blows several times prior to the nurse’s death so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the farmer was to blame.

“Moira definitely had motive,” Natalie commented. “She was put in extreme danger in the barn by Emma and then Emma took her baby. Moira would have seen red at this.”

Gabby Thomas

Gabby (Rosie Bentham) previously taunted Emma when she learned about her cruel behaviour to her late father Ashley (John Middleton).

On the day that Emma died, the youngster could be seen leaving The Woolpack noting she needed to charge her phone.

However, hours later she returned freezing cold and unable to vouch for her whereabouts. Could the teen have gone one step too far?

Cain Dingle

Cain (Jeff Hordley) may not have been in a relationship with Moira any longer but he still cared for his ex.

The bad boy of the village would have no doubt been outraged when he learned that Emma had taken her baby but is it enough for him to commit murder?

“Emma putting Moira in danger could probably be enough motive for Cain to finish her off,” Jeff teased.

Laurel Thomas

Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) is the final suspect as it will be revealed that she had been lying about visiting her sister on the day that Emma had died.

Speaking about whether her character is guilty, the actress said: “Every fibre of Laurel hates what Emma did to Ashley.

“Finding out she mentally tortured a 10-year-old boy who was totally vulnerable was Laurel’s worst nightmare.”
