Emmerdale fans in SHOCK over verdict in Rhona and Pierce rape storyline

The high profile storyline has been running for months and has garnered much attention for taking on such a controversial topic.

However, tonight things came to a head on Emmerdale after Pierce Harris (played by Jonathan Wrather) was finally found guilty of raping his wife (Zoe Henry).

Emmerdale viewers took to social media in their droves to discuss the tough plot and the outcome.

One person posted on Twitter: “Zoe Henry has been amazing during this SL, a heartbreaking and powerful story that many go through. Glad Rhona got justice! #Emmerdale.”(sic)

“#Emmerdale Hope Rhona @ZoeHenry03 gets awards for this. She has played it brilliantly,” wrote a second.

While a third said: “The Rhona and pierce storyline is compelling viewing. #emmerdale Good acting all around.”

After the guilty verdict was revealed, Rhona ran out of the courtroom and broke down in tears.

As she cried outside the building, she seemed to finally be freed from her evil spouse.

Ex-husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) joined Rhona outside as they informed her that Pierce got five years in prison.

“They believed me,” Rhona said relieved, she went on to say: “So many women don’t get that, we have to have the worst moment on the stand and still not be believed at the end of it.”

Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox) was emotional as she thanked Rhona for speaking out, feeling like her victory helped her gain some closure with her own rape.

Pierce’s mother Martha (Elaine Claxton) even apologised and felt “ashamed” for her part in the case and stalking her.

The episode came to an end as Pierce was sent to jail, however there have been suggestions that the controlling solicitor is going to be hanging around for some time yet.

Emmerdale continues on ITV on Monday at 7pm.
