eBay: Rare 50p coin selling for over £1,600 – could YOU have one in your change?

The Peter Rabbit coin is now a collector’s item, and is being sold on eBay with 20 people watching the listing.

The Peter Rabbit 50p coin was produced by the Royal Mint to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter.

There are two versions of the 2016 Peter Rabbit 50p available – one in colour and one in silver.

It is the silver version, showing a headshot of Peter with his name by his ears, that is available on eBay.

In the listing, the seller writes: “Ultra rare British Coin Peter Rabbit coin.

“Took me a while to finally find one of these bad boys It came from getting change back at a Home Bargains store in Manchester after buying some coconut water!

“To this day I have still never come across one that even after going to various shops to ask for £2 in 50p coins.” (sic)

Another Beatrix Potter 50p coin was auctioned on eBay this month for the amazing sum of £2,500.

The silver proof Benjamin Bunny coin with a coloured design was minted in 2017 by Royal Mint.

The coin was the final coin in the Beatrix Potter collection, which has proved hugely popular with collectors.

This coin is being sold by eBay seller Squibalicous, who said of the coin: “This is a One-Of-A-Kind error in the minting process.

“This can be seen as the last picture above shows how the coin should look (Only the error coin will be received).

“This coin is a rarity, that collectors would have a keen interest in. Item will be sent special delivery as soon as payment has cleared.”

The coin comes in a clear acrylic case with a certificate of authenticity, and has been hand painted by Royal Mint.

The seller added: “This is the last in the series of Beatrix Potter coins and only 40,000 of these coins have been produced.”
