eBay: Rare £2 coin selling for over £1000 – could YOU have one stashed in your pockets?

The coin has become a sought-after collector’s item with 15 people currently watching it on the auction website.

The £2 coin was issued in 2015 to mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.

Drawn up some 800 years ago, the Magna Carta was a catalyst for a journey towards freedom for the ordinary man, in the United Kingdom and across the world.

The coin depicts King John issuing the Magna Carta and the words ‘Magna Carta 1215 to 2015’ are written round the outside.

Its mintage is yet to be confirmed by the Royal Mint, but what makes this coin so special?

The seller of the coin claims it to be “very rare”, and others appear to believe so too with the coin on their watch list.

The coin did cost £10 on the Royal Mint Website but is no longer available.

Another £2 coin caught people’s attention last week.

The 1707 Tercentenary Act of Union £2 coin was minted in 2007 and its large cost is at a ‘buy it now’ price on the site.

The design of the coin is divided into four quarters – one with a rose, a thistle occupying two of the quarters and a portcullis in each of the other two quarters.

The four quarters make a jigsaw motif and the dates 1707 and 2007 and the words ‘two pounds’ surround it.

The Royal Mint issued the two pound coin to commemorate the union of England and Scotland.

But what makes this coin so special? The coin apparently has a very rare minting misprint.

There are multiple listings on eBay and other sites, such as Gumtree, that state it has a printing error due to the words around the coin being printed ‘upside down’, in relation to the Queen’s head.

But the Royal Mint confirmed this is not the case to the Liverpool Echo.
