A 10p coin depicting James Bond or 007 has sold on eBay for £90 today.
eBay seller “wblack2006” offered up the limited edition Royal Mint coin, which was quickly snapped up.
The coin, which comes in a commemorative box set in plastic, is a silver proof coin, making it rare and collectable.
There are only 15,000 of these coins in the whole of the UK, making it one many coin collectors would hope to add to their collection.
One of a collection of 26 new coins, which went into circulation on the 1 March, the celebrates the UK’s greatest fictional spy.
Each coin represents a letter of the alphabet, and this one represents the letter ‘B’.
Alongside the release they have created an app called the “Great British Coin Hunt”. Collectors can note the coins they have found on it.
The new 10p coins collection is a fun and whimsical addition to UK currency.
The coins all have interesting new designs, including James Bond, an English breakfast, fish and chips.
The letter Q stands for queuing while L stands for the Loch Ness monster, and each design of approved by the Queen herself.
The coins have been popular, and a poll answered by 2,200 Express readers revealed 70 per cent were already on the look-out for the pieces.
It is not known how many of the circulated coins there will be, and there for how rare they will be to collect.
Anne Jessopp, chief executive at the Royal Mint, said: “These designs were selected because we feel they represent a diverse mix of elements that make up the country we all love.
“There is a lot to be proud of in the UK – whether it’s at the highest level, our Houses of Parliament representing democracy and freedom of speech, technological advancements such as Tim Berners-Lee’s world wide web, or just a good cup of tea, it’s all here in the designs.
“We hope the British public is inspired to take part in the great British coin hunt by checking their change for those miniature works of art that spell out just some of the many iconic themes that are quintessentially British.”
Another rare £2 coin sold for £1,000 yesterday.
Seller “Shancahil5” from Clacton-on-Sea in the UK posted the coin on the online auction site with little additional info, and simply referred to it as the “Rare £2 puzzle coin”.
However, the coin is actually the Act of the Union Coin. It was created in 2007 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the creation on the UK.
Political unification of Scotland and England was made official in 1707, and one parliament was created for both countries.
