easyJet luggage allowance: How much hand baggage can you take on YOUR flight?

The budget British airline offers cheap flights to many of Europe’s most alluring destinations.

But if you want to snap up the discount fares, you’ll have to give up your checked baggage allowance.

Stricter still is easyJet’s hand luggage policy, which affects every passenger flying with the airline.

Don’t get caught out when you’re already at the airport and it’s too late – here are the up-to-date baggage rules for the next time you fly with easyJet.

What is the hand luggage allowance for easyJet flights?

easyJet passengers can take only one cabin bag as carry on.

There is no weight limit for your bag but you must be able to lift it into your overhead locker.

While there is no restriction on weight, there is a strict size policy enforced.

Bags are checked before boarding and must not be bigger than 56x45x25cm, including handles and wheels.

If your bag is bigger than this, it will be taken off you at boarding and checked into the hold, with baggage fees charged.

Even if your cabin bag fits the size dimensions, it could still be stored in the hold.

easyJet said: “If the lockers are full, and your bag is the correct size, we’ll put it into the aircraft hold for free.”

The only extras you’re allowed to take on board aside from your one cabin bag are items like an umbrella, overcoat, crutches, walking stick or one standard shopping bag of duty free goods bought at the airport.

Small satchel bags or handbags have to fit inside your one cabin bag or you won’t be able to board with them.

If you become an easyJet Plus cardholder or have a FLEXI, Up Front or Extra Legroom fare, you are allowed an extra bag.

But easyJet said it must be a “smaller bag, like a laptop bag or handbag that you store under the seat in front of you”.

What can I take in my hand luggage?

Guidelines for the contents of your hand luggage are standardised in most countries around the world.

UK travel advice states that liquids over 100ml are not allowed in your carry-on.

Any liquids, creams or aerosols in containers less than 100ml in size are permitted in the cabin. These must be separated and able to fit into one clear ziplock bag.

Electronics like mobile phones, laptops, tablets, cameras and MP3 players are all allowed on board, unless you’re flying from certain countries into the UK.

The laptop travel ban applies to flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia

If you’re flying direct from any of these countries, you’ll have to store any electronic devices larger than a mobile phone in your checked luggage, or leave them at home.

If your flight is unaffected by the ban, you must have your electronic devices fully charged to be able to prove they turn on. Laptops and tablets have to be separated out at airport security.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7s have been banned by most airlines after several of the smartphones exploded last year.

Smokers can take one lighter on board but must keep it on them at all times. E-cigarettes are also permitted but must be switched off during the flight.

Tweezers, nail clippers, sewing needles, umbrellas, electric shavers and irons are all allowed.

Over-the-counter medication like tablets and capsules are allowed in your carry-on. Medicines like liquids, inhalers, cooling gel packs and hypodermic syringes are only permitted if they are essential for use on your flight.

WHAT IS THE HAND LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE ON BA FLIGHTS?

What is the checked baggage allowance for easyJet flights?

Checked baggage is not included in standard easyJet fares.

If you purchase a bag up to 20kg online before your flight, it will cost you between £13 and £30.

The exact fee per bag depends on the route you are travelling on.

If you wait to purchase your luggage at the airport, you’ll pay £35 at bag drop, or £45 if you have to stow your oversized cabin bag at the boarding gate.

You can purchase extra weight up to a maximum of 32kg, but you can only do this online and it will cost you £3 per 3kg over 20kg.

If your hold item weighs more than your pre-booked weight, you’ll be charged £10.

easyJet does not accept checked luggage that weighs more than 32kg per bag.

Sports equipment up to a maximum of 20kg costs £35 online or £45 at the airport, for each flight.

Heavier sports equipment up to a maximum of 32kg costs £40 online or £50 at the airport.

It’s much more cost-effective to purchase all your additional baggage needs online before you arrive for your flight.
