Easyjet flights have been cancelled throughout the weekend, jeopardising holiday plans for UK travellers who have taken to Twitter to voice their complaints.
Some 100 flights are cancelled today, with a further 108 tomorrow the airline have announced.
The cancellations are because of strike actions from air traffic controllers in Marseilles.
The announcement has thrown holidaymakers’ plans out the window as they tackle the inconvenience.
One disgruntled passengers wrote: “after cancelling our flight yesterday, having waited for an additional 4 hours, we have now been delayed 3 TIMES AGAIN because of “staff welfare reasons”.
“Speaking of which, where is our free lunch as it’s now 4pm???”
Another wrote: “Thanks for cancelling our flight to milan of tomorrow 8.20 am without any alternative to chiose. I will ask for a refund and damages.”
A spokesperson for Easyjet told Express.co.uk the airline was doing “everything possible”.
Due to local air traffic control industrial action from 23rd to 24th June affecting Marseille airspace EasyJet, like all airlines, has been required to cancel 100 flights on Saturday 23rd and 108 flights on Sunday 24th June which include flights to and from Marseille and some flights which pass through Marseille airspace which are unable to be rerouted.
“EasyJet will be doing everything possible to minimise the effects of the strike action for our customers and priority for cancellation has been given to those flights where passengers could find alternative options.
“EasyJet has advised those on affected flights in advance and customers on cancelled flights will be able to transfer their flight free of charge or receive a refund.
“We recommend that all customers flying during this period to check the status of their flight on our Flight Tracker page.”
Easyjet are not the only airline affected by the strike action at Marseilles.
Ryanair have also warned of flight cancellations over the weekend.
So far in 2018, there have been 24 strike days which has caused more than 5,000 flight cancellations, affecting millions of passengers.
A further 100 flights will be cancelled this weekend by Ryanair due to the strikes.
Passengers are advised to check their flight before travelling to the airport.
A Ryanair spokesman confirmed: “Due to yet another French ATC strike, Ryanair regrets to inform customers that it has been forced to cancel a number of flights, we expect up to 100 flights, on Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24.
“All affected customers have been contacted by email and text message and advised of their options: a full refund, rebooking on to the next available flight or transferring to an alternative flight.
“As a result of this unjustified strike action, we also expect some significant delays to flights to/from/over France and we advise customers due to travel on Saturday and Sunday to check the status of their flight on the Ryanair.com website.”
