EastEnders viewers left confused by Phil Mitchell murder mix-up storyline

The BBC soap saw Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden) admit to killing Jay’s (Jamie Borthwick) dad in last night’s episode.

Phil revealed all after handing over the £300,00 car lot to Jay after feeling guilty for several years.

Jase (Stephen Lord) was killed in 2008 by football gang leader Terry Bates (Nicholas Ball) after rescuing his son from a kidnapping attempt and being beaten to death by Terry’s friends.

Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) saved Jay along with Jase, and has looked after him ever since.

The latest episode saw Jay push Phil and ask: “What are you so guilty about? What’s it got to do with the car lot?”

Phil told him: “It’s where I did it okay, it’s where I killed him. It’s where I killed your dad.”

Phil has only ever killed one person on the soap, accidentally killing a homeless man after setting fire to the car lot in 1994.

However, viewers are confused and believe that the writers have muddled up two murders.

Diehard fans took to social media over the mix up, with one tweeting: “I could have sworn Jay’s dad was beaten to death in a flat whilst Billy hid in a bath #EastEnders.”

Another posted: “Where you killed Jay’s dad? We rewriting history now? #EastEnders.”

A third added: “Pretty sure #EastEnders have mixed up two deaths. Jase wasn’t the homeless man? #Confused.”
