EastEnders spoilers: Ray Kelly star teases grisly end for Mel Owen – 'He's dangerous!'

New Year’s Day in EastEnders would not be the same if there were no drama, tears or tantrums and there are plenty of each in the BBC soap’s January 1 episode.

Actor Sean Mahon, who plays Ray Kelly in the drama series, has hinted at a gruesome end for his on-screen wife Mel Owen (played by Tamzin Outhwaite).

The couple are due to marry on the first day of 2019, but Mel has been plotting revenge on Ray every since she discovered he is married to two other women.

In fact, the sneaky lothario is hiding not one, but two secret families from his bride-to-be and her son Hunter (Charlie Winter).

It is said his lies will blow up in his face on their wedding day when Mel ousts him as a bigamist in Albert Square.

But her actions could have deadly consequences, as Sean teased some of his character’s dark traits during an interview with Metro.

“He’s a dangerous person, and I think if you’re married to a dangerous person it doesn’t bode well,” the soap star began.

“If you push a rabid dog into a corner they’re going to come at you very, very fast.”

Hinting Ray may react violently to being exposed by Mel, he added: “As is the case with any decent story, if you’re going to pin him into a corner, he’s going to come out swinging.”

On the day of her nuptials, Mel will learn Ray has not only been cheating on her with multiple women, but is a murderer.

She is planning to expose him on their special day, but could the shock discovery change her decision?

Sean divulged: “The way it’s set up is that the wedding is a set up for Ray, so Mel can win the day.

“On the wedding day, some events happen that may challenge her ability to win the day.”

Tamzin Outhwaite, who portrays Mel in the BBC soap, previously spoke out about the dark New Year’s Day scenes.

Speaking to the press including Express.co.uk, she admitted: “I’m not sure I would want my children to watch it if you know what I mean.”

“It’s like a horror or the darker side of EastEnders.

“It can be scary. I mean I haven’t seen it but I know when we were doing it I was scared.”

The showdown between Mel and Ray is set to take place at night in a spooky woodland.

However, Tamzin remained tipped lipped about what viewers can expect to see from the action in the woods.

EastEnders continues tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
