EastEnders spoilers: Carter exit CONFIRMED – and they've already finished filming

Actor Ted Reilly who plays Johnny Carter has announced he will be leaving the soap in the new year.

Ted, 26, only joined the cast last year after writers decided to bring the character back after a 14 month absence.

He took over the role from original actor Sam Strike who left in 2014.

A BBC spokeswoman confirmed: “We can confirm Ted has finished filming with EastEnders and wish him all the best for the future.”

As a member of the Carter family, Ted has been involved in some key storylines during his time on the BBC soap.

Dramatic scenes this year saw Johnny wounded after being shot by Ted Murray (Christopher Timothy) before being involved in a near-fatal crash in the ambulance that was taking him to hospital.

The Carters have faced further tragedy recently as James Willmott-Brown (William Boyde) announced the family would be evicted from the Queen Vic in a few weeks.

Ted has already filmed his final scenes however it is unclear how Johnny will be leaving the show.

Johnny’s one-time love interest, Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid), will also be leaving the show but it is not known if their exits are linked.

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
