Eamonn Holmes CLASHES with Andrew Gwynn in awkward spat: 'Labour's not being straight'

The interview came in advance of Jeremy Corbyn and Theresa May’s planned appearance on a televised debate tonight.

Holmes had no time for waiting, getting straight to asking Gwynne to comment on recent allegations that suggest Jeremy Corbyn, Dianne Abbott and John McDonald have previously supported “terror links”.

Holmes began: “Your lot – they’re not being straight, and their past is catching up with them.

“The reason I’m saying this is that they’re now poachers turned gamekeepers, but tonight, Jeremy Corbyn is going to face a grilling about national security and his views on it,” he added.

Immediately on the defensive, Gwynne replied: “No labour government in the past or future would ever put the national security at risk and that’s a really important message.”

However, Holmes didn’t stop there, snapping back: “We’ve never had a Labour government with Jeremy Corbyn or Diane Abbott in it.”

As Gwynne called for Prime Minister Theresa May to answer questions on her “unclear” manifesto, Holmes launched his attack, arguing: “But you can’t really preach about coming clean when McDonald, Corbyn and Abbott aren’t coming clean about their terror links in the past and their adulation of terrorists.”

“There’s no adulation of terrorists. We condemn terrorists outright,” replied a serious Gwynne.

The Labour party member’s grilling didn’t stop there as co-host Charlotte Hawkins also joined in on the debate, using a statement from the Institute of Fiscal Studies.

She started: “There might be people that are really worried when they hear what you’re doing. The Institute of Fiscal Studies say your proposals could be economically damaging.”

However, Gwynne snapped back, saying: “We’d have the exact same conversation in 1945 with Clement Atlee’s manifesto when he created the welfare state.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
