Doctor Who: Steven Moffat reveals HUGE alternate finale with Missy and John Simm's Master

DOCTOR WHO showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed that he had plans in place for a major alternative ending to series 10.

The 55-year-old was speaking on Doctor Who: The Fan Show where he announced his original ideas for the season finale involving Missy (played by Michelle Gomez) and the Master (John Simm).

The Doctor Falls saw Missy and the Master initially team up before quickly turning on each other, but the episode almost had a completely different ending – with a pregnancy announcement.

Speaking about bringing the characters back to the show, Steven said: “I tell you what. I wrote to Russell [T Davies] when I was going to do this. I said, ‘Look, I’m going to bring back one of your characters. Do you want the spoiler or not?’ and he said, ‘Okay, tell me, tell me, tell me’.

“I said, ‘Okay, it’s John Simm’s Master, and he was like, ‘Oh my god, the dialogue, oh my gosh that’s amazing, oh brilliant, oh they’re going to… aren’t they?’

“I said, ‘It’s a children’s show. He’s not cucumber. We can’t do that’.”

The showrunner continued: “Then we concocted this whole scheme that I’d cliffhanger out of my era on Doctor Who, handing over to Chris [Chibnall] with Missy telling the Master and the Doctor that she’s pregnant.

“I decided not to do that. Over to you, Chibs. Sort that one out, mate. Off you go. There we go.

“I think it was [a step too far]. It was only email lunacy. I don’t know. I think the Master and Missy… I’m not quite sure about their flirtation and whether it’s just showing off.”

returns to on Christmas day. Series 10 is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer now.
