The actress has revealed that her dad was not impressed when he learned that she would be playing the first female Doctor as it was announced on the BBC.
The 35-year-old confessed that once she heard the news that she had won the role she only confided in two people – and one of them wasn’t her father.
She admitted that she only trusted her mother and husband Christian Contreras with the news.
Jodie also noted that she struggled to keep it secret and was forced to use the codename “The Clooney” when talking about her new role.
“Mum kept it from the world,” she told Mirror Online. “She was trustworthy. My dad was furious.
“But good news is difficult to keep secret. You wanna go ‘Have you heard the news?’ But you don’t know how wildfire that would go.”
It comes not long after former Time Lord David Tennant revealed what he thought about Jodie’s casting in the BBC sci-fi series.
The Scottish actor, who played the tenth Doctor between 2005 and 2010, said it was “brilliant” his fellow Broadchurch star would be taking on the role.
“Sure, Jodie is from a different gender than anyone who’s gone before, but that will be irrelevant almost immediately when she takes the part,” he commented on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“The Doctor can be whatever he needs to be. It’s about finding the right performer at the right time, and that’s Jodie without a doubt.”
