DIY SOS fans inconsolable as stroke victim is reunited with babies: ‘You gave me a family'

Charlotte defied the odds when she survived pre-eclampsia and suffered a major stroke after giving birth to twins Fox and Teddy in December 2014.

Doctors gave her just a one per cent chance of surviving the horrifying ordeal, which meant it was impossible to return home to be with her husband and two newborn boys.

What’s more, the stroke left Charlotte with severe amnesia, stealing memories of her entire pregnancy and robbing the new mum of her maternal instinct.

However, during tonight’s particularly emotional instalment of the BBC series, Nick Knowles and his expert team reunited a family then apart by devastating circumstances and but a home where they could finally live as a family.

In just nine days, the squad of 100 tradespeople and suppliers as well as an army of local electricians, plumbers, carpenters and plasterers, transformed Charlotte’ home with a two-story extension with a physio studio an en-suite wetroom.

They also added an extra bedroom for a live-in carer so Charlotte can be at home while she learns to walk and regain her speech.

When asked if there was anythng special the team could do for her boys, Charlotte beamed: “For us to be together.” And her wish came true.

In turn, hundreds of viewers broke down on Twitter including one particular weepy fan, who wrote: “#diysos beautiful results again and a lovely family who deserve a fresh start. I hope her recovery continues xx.”

“Bawling my eyes out. What a story,” cried another, which was followed by: “DIY SOS breaks my heart every time, so much love for all involved.”

A fourth weeped: “Only caught part of this but my word! How much more could the young family have to bear?” while one more added: “Rob on #diysos what an amazing husband and dad. Inspiring.”

DIY SOS continues next Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
